Darryl A. Simon is Founder and President of Vantage Growth Strategic Advisors. Based in the metropolitan Baltimore/Washington, DC area, Darryl and the Vantage Growth team work with regional, national and global clients to develop and implement growth and improvement strategies through organizational analysis and effectiveness, strategic planning, executive coaching, leadership development, human capital planning and talent management solutions.
Darryl is a senior-level strategist and executive advisor whose expertise has improved the performance, growth and effectiveness of executives and organizations during more than 30 years of consulting and corporate assignments within a wide breadth of industries and sectors such as healthcare, technology, commodities, financial services, energy, commercial real estate, chemicals/plastics, telecommunications, education, trade associations and federal government.
Darryl’s approach in working with clients is collaborative, strategic and analytical with a focus on development to achieve and sustain measurable goals and results. Combining his insight and experience with a range of models, assessments and tools, he has effectively worked with managerial, director, senior executive and board level clients on engagements ranging from individual executive coaching and leadership development to enterprise wide strategic planning, organizational growth and human capital initiatives. Darryl brings extensive corporate executive experience to Vantage Growth. As a former Senior Vice President with Washington, DC based CarrAmerica Realty Corporation, he served on its Management Operating Committee and advised senior management and the Board of Directors in implementing human capital, organizational development and risk management strategies for the $3.8 billion commercial real estate firm. He also served on the leadership team in the successful $5.6 billion merger of the company with the Blackstone Group.
Prior to CarrAmerica, Darryl served as a Vice President and Corporate Officer with USEC Inc., a Bethesda, Maryland global nuclear energy technology firm where he advised senior management and the Board of Directors in successfully implementing human capital, organizational development and corporate administration strategies that reduced annual operating costs by $2 million. He was also a member of the Executive Committee that led the successful $1.4 billion IPO and $3.3 billion privatization of the U.S. government’s uranium enrichment operation.
Prior to USEC, Darryl was Vice President of Leadership and Organizational Planning & Development for Manor Care Health Services, Inc., a $1.3 billion healthcare company with 40,000 employees based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. At Manor Care, he directed leadership succession planning and development programs for 6,000 managers and executives; executive feedback and coaching for 500 high potential managers and executives; organizational development and human capital retention strategies; and led a team supporting the launch of two new business units and organizational restructuring as part of the company’s five year strategic growth and development plan.
Darryl also served on the Executive Committee of MICROS Systems, Inc., a global software development firm. As the firm’s Chief Human Resources Executive, he successfully implemented talent management and growth strategies following the firm’s acquisition by Westinghouse.
Darryl has published articles, been quoted in the media, organizes professional development programs and presents extensively to professional & industry associations on a wide range of organizational strategy, executive, leadership development and human capital issues and topics. Darryl currently serves as volunteer advisor to Leadership Howard County, Maryland, the Board of Directors of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources and previously served on the Board of the Chesapeake Bay Organization Development Network.
Darryl earned his Master of Science degree in Applied Behavioral Science and Organizational Development from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Communications from John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH. He is also certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
